Day 5: Doors & Inspiration from Cartagena

While most of us were soaking up the ambience of the day and bathing in the beauty all around us, Shirley was busy zeroing in on one specific topic. She was taking close up photos of doors, door knobs, knockers and door related details. I thought you might enjoy browsing thru her collection of interesting doorways.

I can imagine that some man had this wrought iron work done for his wife named EMA. We have a good friend named Ema, and I could see Ivan putting her name over their door.

Enjoy the photo study that Shirley did on our walking tour in Cartagena. I think she sees a lot of details that many people never give a second thought about.

Shirley has selected some of her favorite quotes on doors... like this one by Walt Disney. "We keep moving forward opening new doors, and doing new things, because we are curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

"Not knowing when the dawn will come I open every door; Or has it feathers like a bird, or billows like a shore?" -Emily Dickinson
"There are things known, and there are things unknown. And in between there are doors." -Jim Morrison, leader of the band, Doors.

"Poetry is the opening and closing of a door, leaving those who look through to guess about what is seen during a moment." -Carl Sandburg

"A door opened and I went thru it." -Temple Grandin, from the movie by the same name. This is a touching movie about an autistic person who overcame huge obstacles and became an expert in the cattle industry.

"When I see a door, a beautiful or unusual door, my first impulse is to go up to it, try the handle and if possible walk through to a new world. I see wonderful stories behind the doors!" -Shirley Ann Goerlitz
